Rant: Fry Sauce
Fry sauce? Why do people like fry sauce? Do you like fry sauce? I mean it just mayonnaise and ketchup. And its more mayonnaise than ketchup, and that has to be bad for your health right? In one serving alone of fry sauce (1 tbsp), there are more than 140 calories[1], with about 112 calories coming from fat [2] and a whooping total of 14.6 grams of fat!!! Now you just do not eat the fry sauce alone, I mean its possible but that would be just silly . As its name implies you have to eat this special condiment with fries, although people have been known to flop fry sauce in other foods, and other places that you wouldn't think fry sauce should go on, but I won't go into that. Anyways back to french fries, a McDonald's serving alone has 540 calories, 230 are from fat with 26 grams of fat[3], and I ain't talking about the "Super Size Me" deal here, who knows what you get in that. Now let say that we are conservative eaters (yeah right) and we only have one serving of fries and fry sauce, that would mean we would consume more than 680 calories, 342 of those are from fat, and have stuffed ourselves with 30 grams of fat. That is 34 percent of our required daily calories intake, and over half of our required fat intake[4]. Now you can't just have a meal with fries and fry sauce, you have to have the burger, or the chicken sandwich or something like that, and you probably need at least 3 packets of fry sauce, and that large coke to keep your heart's (or most likely your stomach's) content. And like a cheap magic trick, in just one meal we've eaten over 1,500 calories (>3/4 of our recommended daily calories intake) and exceeded our daily fat intake [4,5,6 ], Wow!! OK fine, the only beef I have with fry sauce is that the restaurant that claims to have invented fry sauce, Arctic Circle [7], charges you for it. Well at least the one on 135 East and 9th South in Salt Lake City, Utah did about a year ago, or maybe they just took advantage of me.
